Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic Glaze: A Healthy and Delicious Side Dish

Brussels sprouts are a cruciferous vegetable that is packed with nutrients, making them an excellent addition to any healthy diet. Not only are they low in calories but they also contain vitamins C and K, fiber, potassium, and antioxidants.

However, some people find the taste of Brussels sprouts to be bitter or unappealing. But when roasted until crisp and drizzled with a tangy balsamic glaze, these little green vegetables become irresistible.

In this post, we will discuss how to make roasted Brussels sprouts with balsamic glaze that are both healthy and delicious.

Ingredients:

– 1 pound of fresh Brussels sprouts
– 2 tablespoons of olive oil
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 2 cloves of minced garlic
– 1 tablespoon of honey
– ¼ cup of balsamic vinegar

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. Rinse the Brussels sprouts under cool water while trimming off the stem ends. Remove any yellowing outer leaves as well.

3. Cut each Brussels sprout in half lengthwise so that they cook evenly.

4. In a bowl combine the halved Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, pepper, and minced garlic until well coated.

5. Spread them out on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy clean-up after roasting.

6.Roast the Brussels sprouts for about 20 minutes or until tender when pierced by a fork which can vary depending on their size so keep an eye on them!

7.While roasting whisk together honey & balsamic vinegar in a small saucepan over medium-high heat bring it up to simmer then reduce heat down till it becomes thickened like syrup consistency just takes around five minutes stirring occasionally otherwise it might burn

8. Once Brussels sprouts are cooked, remove them from the oven and drizzle with the balsamic glaze.

9. Serve immediately as a side dish or refrigerate for later use.

Tips for Making Perfect Roasted Brussels Sprouts:

1. Trim off the stem ends and yellowed outer leaves before roasting to ensure even cooking.

2. Cut each Brussels sprout in half lengthwise so that they cook evenly.

3. Use parchment paper to line your baking sheet for easy clean-up after roasting.

4. Don’t overcrowd your baking sheet; give them some space to ensure that they roast rather than steam which can make them soggy instead of crispy!

5.Olive oil works great here but if you want it healthier then try avocado oil, coconut oil, or ghee!

6.Always keep an eye on your roasted veggies while cooking because it varies depending on size & how hot your oven is running at any given time but roughly 20 minutes should do the trick!

Health Benefits of Brussels Sprouts:

As mentioned earlier in this post, Brussels sprouts are a nutrient-dense vegetable that offers several health benefits such as:

1.Rich source of vitamins C and K – These vitamins play vital roles in maintaining healthy bones, skin, and immune system function.

2.High fiber content – The fiber in Brussels sprouts helps with digestion by promoting regular bowel movements while also keeping you feeling fuller longer between meals which makes it ideal for weight loss diets.

3.Antioxidant properties – The antioxidants found in these vegetables help protect cells against damage caused by free radicals which can cause cancer & other diseases over time.

4.Low-calorie food- A half-cup serving has just 28 calories making it perfect for those who are trying to lose weight without sacrificing flavor or nutrition!

Conclusion:

Roasted Brussels sprouts with balsamic glaze is a healthy and delicious side dish that is easy to make and packed with nutrients. With this recipe, you can enjoy the benefits of Brussels sprouts without sacrificing flavor or nutrition. So give it a try for your next dinner party or family gathering!
