Hazelnuts are often touted as a superfood, and it’s easy to see why. These little nuts are packed with vitamins and minerals that can help keep you healthy, but they’re also delicious! Whether you’re looking for a quick snack or an ingredient to add flavor to your cooking, hazelnuts have got you covered.
One of the most impressive things about hazelnuts is their nutritional profile. They’re rich in protein, fiber, healthy fats (including monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats), vitamin E, magnesium and phosphorus. In fact, just one ounce of hazelnuts contains over 4 grams of protein – not bad for such a small food!
But let’s be honest: we don’t eat hazelnuts just because they’re good for us. We eat them because they taste amazing! Hazelnuts have a rich, nutty flavor that pairs well with all kinds of foods. You can sprinkle chopped hazelnuts on top of oatmeal or yogurt for breakfast; toss them into salads or grain bowls for lunch; or grind them up to make homemade Nutella (yum!).
Of course, like any food, there are some downsides to eating too many hazelnuts. For starters, they’re high in calories – about 176 per ounce – so it’s important to enjoy them in moderation if you’re trying to maintain a healthy weight. Additionally, some people may be allergic to tree nuts like hazelnuts.
But perhaps the biggest downside of all is how darn difficult it can be to crack open a hazelnut! If you’ve ever tried shelling these little guys by hand (and failed miserably), then you know what I’m talking about. Luckily there are tools available that can make the process easier – though still time-consuming.
Despite these challenges though there’s no denying the versatility and benefits Hazlenut brings when incorporated into our meals.
From adding crunch to your salads to using it as a base for your homemade pesto, hazelnuts are a must-have in every kitchen. And let’s not forget about how delicious they are – whether you’re snacking on them straight out of the bag or adding them to your favorite recipes, hazelnuts are sure to satisfy.
So why not give them a try? Whether you’re looking for a healthy snack or an ingredient to add flavor and nutrition to your cooking, hazelnuts have got you covered. Just be prepared for the occasional broken nut!
