The Pros and Cons of Juicing: Is It Really Worth the Hype?

Juicing has become a popular trend in the health and wellness industry. It involves extracting the liquid from fruits and vegetables, leaving behind the pulp and fiber. The resulting juice is said to provide numerous health benefits due to its high concentration of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

But what is the science behind juicing? Is it really as beneficial as people claim?

Firstly, it’s important to note that juicing does remove some of the insoluble fiber found in fruits and vegetables. This type of fiber provides bulk in our digestive system and helps promote regular bowel movements. However, soluble fiber remains in the juice which can still help with digestion.

Additionally, when we juice fruits and vegetables, we are able to consume a larger quantity than we would if we were eating them whole. For example, it may be difficult to eat an entire bunch of kale or a pound of carrots but by juicing these ingredients together you can easily consume all of them at once.

Furthermore, juices are often made with a variety of different fruits and vegetables which means they contain an array of nutrients including vitamins A, C & K; potassium; magnesium; iron; calcium; and more depending on what you choose to include.

Lastly, research has shown that consuming fresh fruit juices can have positive effects on blood pressure levels as well as reducing inflammation throughout the body.

However, there are also potential downsides to consider when it comes to juicing. Juices can be high in sugar if made primarily with fruit rather than vegetables which could lead to increased insulin resistance over time if consumed regularly. Additionally, because most commercial juices undergo pasteurization (heating) prior to bottling for safety purposes this process may eliminate some heat-sensitive vitamins such as vitamin C or thiamin.

In conclusion while juicing can be a great way to increase your intake of essential nutrients from fruits and veggies into your diet there are pros/cons that one must take into consideration before you start juicing.
