Desserts in middle eastern cuisine are often very sweet and rich because they use ingredients such as honey, nuts (like pistachios almonds walnuts hazelnuts pecans etc..), dates figs apricots rose water orange blossom water saffron cardamom cinnamon turmeric cloves nutmeg ginger sesame seeds pumpkin seeds pomegranate molasses etc… Baklava is one of the most famous desserts from the region. It consists of layers of phyllo dough filled with chopped nuts and drizzled with honey syrup.
