Master the Art of Mango Cutting: Slice, Scoop, and Savor the Sweetness!

Mangoes are not only delicious, but they also offer numerous health benefits. Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, mangoes are a great addition to any healthy eating plan. However, cutting a mango can be tricky if you don’t know the proper technique. In this post, we will guide you through how to cut a mango properly.

Before you begin, make sure you have a ripe mango. Look for one that is slightly soft when gently squeezed and has a fragrant aroma at the stem end.

To start, place the mango on your cutting board with the stem facing upwards. Hold the fruit firmly and locate the wide flat pit in the center of the mango running from top to bottom.

Using a sharp knife, carefully slice off one side of the mango lengthwise along one edge of the pit. Repeat on the other side so that you have two large halves and an oval-shaped middle section containing the pit.

Next, take one half of the mango and score it into cubes without piercing through its skin. Make horizontal cuts about 1/2-inch apart across its flesh and then vertical cuts in a similar manner.

Now comes an ingenious trick for easily removing those juicy cubes: hold each scored half by its skin-side using gentle pressure to turn it inside out like a hedgehog or porcupine until all cubes pop out.

Alternatively, you can use a spoon to scoop out each cube from both halves instead of turning them inside out.

For smaller pieces or slices rather than cubed sections – such as for salads or garnishes – simply peel off their skin using either your fingers or by sliding a small paring knife just beneath it all around.

As for that middle section containing the pit (which some people refer to as “cheeks”), don’t let it go to waste! You can still enjoy its sweet flesh by slicing off any remaining edible parts around it using your knife.

Lastly, clean up your work area and wash your hands thoroughly. Mango juice can be sticky, so it’s important to clean everything properly.

Now that you know how to cut a mango properly, go ahead and indulge in this tropical fruit. Enjoy it on its own or add it to smoothies, salads, salsas, or desserts for an extra burst of flavor and nutrition.

Remember, practice makes perfect. So don’t worry if your first attempt isn’t perfect – the more mangoes you cut, the better you will become at mastering this technique. Happy slicing!
