Antioxidants: Why You Need Them in Your Diet
We often hear about the importance of consuming antioxidants, but what are they exactly and why do we need them? Antioxidants are molecules that help protect our cells from damage caused by harmful substances called free radicals. Free radicals can come from various sources such as pollution, cigarette smoke, and radiation. They can also be produced naturally within our bodies during normal cellular processes.

Green tea contains catechins which are potent antioxidants that have been shown to reduce the risk of certain types of cancers.
6. Tomatoes
Tomatoes contain lycopene – an antioxidant that has been linked to reducing the risk of prostate cancer in men.
7. Red Wine
Moderate consumption of red wine (one glass per day for women or two glasses per day for men) has been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease due to the presence of antioxidants called polyphenols.

Spices like turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon contain powerful antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation in our bodies.
It’s important to note that while consuming foods high in antioxidants is beneficial, it’s not a magic solution. A healthy diet should consist of a variety of nutrient-dense foods including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats.
